Master Knitter Posts

Master Knitter Monday #12

I don’t have anything new to show you this week on the Master Knitter front – my vest hasn’t been touched in a week or two, and neither have my swatches!  But, I thought I’d go over some of the reference books that have come in handy for me while working through the Master Knitter program.

There are several books which I found useful while working through Level 1, and which are proving useful in Level 2 as well – but the one on the very top of that list is Knitter’s Handbook by Montse Stanley.  The pictures aren’t printed in pretty colors, but there is a wealth of information in this book – including many techniques which were not in ANY of my other reference books.  I cannot recommend this book enough – every knitter should own it, whether or not you’re going through the Master Knitter program, but most definitely if you are.

Another title that has come in handy for me is The Knitter’s Book of Finishing Techniques by Nancie M. Wiseman.  There’s more in this spiral-bound book than just finishing techniques, many general knitting techniques are nicely illustrated in this book as well.

The third book that I refer to often is The Knitter’s Companion by Vicki Square.  This title is another spiral bound and nicely illustrated reference book.  A plus with it is it’s size – it could easily fit in a large knitting bag, if you like to take reference books along with you, that is.

I own several other knitting reference books, but these three are the ones I go to first when working through the Master Knitter swatches and questions.  I’m sure there are other titles out there that are just as valuable – comment below and tell me your favorite knitting reference books!

I’ll do another post with the books I used as reference for the History of Knitting report – once I’m actually done with the report!  There’s a whole other set of books that have proven valuable for that part of my Level 2 work.

Also, I am eagerly awaiting the reprinting of June Hiatt’s Principles of Knitting, which I’ve already pre-ordered!  I’ve heard wonderful things about the original edition, so I’m quite excited that they are finally issuing a reprint!

Happy Knitting everyone!!
