Here’s my finished vest!

Pattern: Lolita Vest by Jamie Thomas
Yarn: Rowan Revive (100% recycled yarn – silk, cotton, viscose)

Size knitted: small (see note below)
Started: August 5, 2011
Finished: August 14, 2011

Modifications: none!

the back

I promised to show you how this seams up, so here goes!

You end up with a rectangle with notches out of it like this:

blocking

The seams are at the two small 90 degree corners above the armholes –

Wrong sides up - neck and shoulder sections to seam

Place the wrong sides together at each armhole like so:

wrong sides together - sew these seams

and seam them up to get your two shoulder and neck seams:

Easy-peasy!!  Then wear your vest with flair! 🙂

(doesn't it match the skirt perfectly?!)

I knitted the size small, even though I wear a medium/large in a t-shirt, because when I tried the sample at Charlotte Yarn on (which was a small) it fit me perfectly.  A larger size would have provided more room in the armhole area, but would have been too long on my back (since I’m petite), and probably too long in front as well.  So, I would suggest the small if you’re petite like me, but add width to the back and to the armhole spacing if you’re worried that the fit might be snug.  I didn’t add any width and it fits me just fine, even though I’m by no means a small. 🙂  And if you’re a taller lady, then go with the larger size to make a taller vest that will look more proportioned.

Anyway, I’m very happy with it – I love the yarn (although it bled like crazy when I soaked it) and I can’t wait to wear it with my skirt!  (I may have to have the hubby take me out to dinner so I can have a skirt-appropriate place to go!)

Happy Knitting everyone!!

  1. This is lovely! I think you’re right the size is perfect on you! And yes it does match the skirt perfectly!

  2. Beautiful! It looks great on you, and also like a lot of fun to wear—really light and breezy, especially in that colour. 🙂 I love seeing how you seamed it up, too.

  3. Thanks for posting the blocking picture. I would like to shape this just a bit for my fuller figure and I needed to see this to figure out how. I love this thing.
