Master Knitter Posts, Teaching

Fiber Frolic was a blast!

This last weekend I was one of the instructors at the Carolina Fiber Frolic.  I had so much fun!!  I taught 5 classes:  Fair Isle, Steeking, Socks a la Carte, Thrummed Mittens, and A Sampling of Short Rows.

I was a good teacher and got pictures from my first day of classes, but then I was a bad teacher and got no more pictures the rest of the weekend!!  Oops!

Thursday night we had the chance to go visit the Bascom and see Charles Gandy’s art installation ‘Beyond the Sock’.  It was a real treat to see him again and to have him talk to us about his socks and the art show.  If you live anywhere nearby you should definitely go check it out!!

This one is my favorite – I love the twigs!

I took several more photos, check out my Flickr album if you wish to look at them!

The other two instructors for the weekend were Kate Larson and Jerry Spears.  I really wish I could have taken one or more of their classes!  But I was teaching all the available class slots and had no free spots to take classes myself!

My Fair Isle class did really well knitting their hats:

And my Steeking students took those scissors to their knitting with gusto!

I wish I had gotten photos from my other classes!  The socks class was designed for a wide range of experience levels, and it seemed to go very well!  And the Thrummed Mitten class was just fun.  The Short Rows class was fun, too!

Now I’m looking ahead to July and the conference in Charleston.  Registration for it should open tomorrow!!  Come join me there if you can!

Until next time, Happy Knitting!!

Oh wait – I forgot!  I wanted to point you all – especially those of you going through the Master Knitting program – to this link!  The Stuff You Missed in History Class podcast covered knitting history!  It might come in handy for research for the Level 2 report (especially the list of references given).  But even for non-MK students, it is very interesting listening!  Check it out!
