Hi all! I just finished up my fingerless mitts that will be in the next Cast On (sorry, can’t show them to you yet) – so now I can pull back out my sweater and finish it up! It’s not any farther along than it was the last time I talked about it, so no photos of it either. But hopefully it’ll be done in just a few days, so I’ll show you the finished sweater next week! Then I need to find the next thing I want to work on…. decisions, decisions.
Oh, and in case you didn’t notice, TKGA just came out with a Tech Editing certification course – so naturally I signed up for that! I’ve finished up Lesson 1, just waiting to hear if I passed. There are three lessons/levels (much like the MK certification). I’d really like to add tech editing to my wheelhouse, so this was perfect – and I’ve learned quite a bit already!
In publishing news – the next Knit Picks collection that I have a pattern in has been released! Luxurious Lace is a collection of 14 gorgeous shawls. (I haven’t gotten my comp copy of the book yet, but from the photos it looks like a lovely book!)
My ‘Feronia Shawl‘ is in the collection, and I am super pleased with it – it was so much fun to design. (I love designing lace – I really need to design more shawls!!)
I hope you enjoy knitting as much as I did designing it! Here’s a photo of my personal sample (knit in a different color):
Until next time, Happy Knitting!
EDIT: Oooh, I just received my copies of the book, and I have an extra one – so I’m going to do a giveaway! To enter, comment on this post with what you enjoy most about lace. I will do a random number generator to pick one person to win the copy of ‘Luxurious Lace’!
I’ll take entries from now until midnight ET July 5th (so – for 2 weeks) and announce the winner on July 6th! Good luck!
(Rules, etc: Only one entry per person please. Valid only for continental US addresses!)
Oooo…. pick me pick me!! I love Knit Picks… and I love you… and I really *want* to love lace! So maybe this would help me. 🙂
I always love your lace designs! I also like that you go BIG! YAY book! Yay tech editing! Yay giveaway!
I love the shawl in the darker color, it looks very dramatic. Hope I win the extra copy!
I love the moment right after blocking, where the lace suddenly transforms into something beautiful. My stitches always look so messy to me so this still feels like magic every time!
I love that moment too! So magical!
I, too, love seeing something bloom and open up after blocking!
I love the challenge of knitting lace. It exercises my brain.
I love following the directions or chart and trusting that the magic of lace will occur. I love the look of lace all knotted and corrugated before a good blocking, and I love the magical change that happens after the blocking even more. I love how different the same lace pattern looks in various fibers. And I love the engrossing meditation of lace knitting, how the concentration takes take your mind off everyday matters and into both realms both poetic and mathematical.
Whoop! Heather you are the bestest!
Graceful symmetry, pattern and order all draw me to lace.
I love to see the pattern blooming like flowers in yarn
I love how lace “magically” grows from this compact pattern into something delicate and beautiful when you block it. (asimplehomestd on Ravelry)
