Happy Flowers Pullover

My newest pattern is just out — the Happy Flowers Pullover!

Happy Flowers is inspired by a vintage pattern from 1947 titled Flowers Gay. I took the colorwork chart and the basic silhouette and designed this sweater from scratch with an aim to be size-inclusive.

This round-neck pullover features a cropped, high-hip length, with A-line shaping to the bust. Short, puffed sleeves round out the vintage feel.

I worked up two samples with different color schemes—one in sky blue and cool colors, and one in sunny yellow with more vintage warm tones. Experiment with your color choices, as flowers come in all sorts of colors!

I used Knit Picks Palette for my samples, but you could use any fingering-weight yarn that is good for colorwork and comes in multiple colors.

View my Instagram feed for some of my testers’ color choices — there are some gorgeous examples!

This pattern is graded for finished busts of 29.5 to 65.5″, with a suggested positive ease at the bust of about 1.5″ or less.
The pattern is noted as “experienced” skill level, due to the complex “at the same time” shaping as well as the steeks and gathered sleeve caps. Support video links are included for the more difficult techniques.

  • Construction Notes:
Sweater is worked bottom-up, in the round, to the underarms. Body is put on hold while the sleeves are worked bottom-up, in the round to the underarms. The sleeves and body are joined and worked at the same time, with set in sleeve and body shaping, to the front neck. Front neck is bound off and a steek added. Sweater continues to upper sleeve cap. Sleeve caps are bound off and steeks added at each upper shoulder. Body continues to back neck bind off, and a steek is added at back neck. The shoulders are worked to the end. Seaming consists of the underarm seams, shoulder seams, and sleeve cap gathers and seams. Neckband is picked up and knit in the round at the end.

This pattern was four years in the making, so I’m beyond thrilled to finally have it out in the world! I hope you like it!
