Bobbles!

Today I want to talk about bobbles. They are fantastic for adding three-dimensionality to your knitting!

I have a video out today on four ways to make bobbles:

All bobbles are started on the right side, and they are finished up before the rest of the knitting is completed. They can be small (about 3 stitches is as small as they come) or very large!

I show four different ones in the video above, but there are lots more methods out there.

Here are the written directions for these:

Small Bobble (Three-Stitch, Quick Increase)
Row 1 (RS): (K1, yo, k1) into a single stitch, turn. (3 sts)
Row 2 (WS): P3, turn.
Row 3: (Kfb) 3 times. (6 sts) DO NOT turn. *Slip 2nd st on RH needle over last st; rep from * 4 more times. (1 st)
Resume knitting across row.

Medium Bobble (Three-Stitch Centered)
Row 1 (RS): Kfbf into a single stitch, turn. (3 sts)
Row 2 (WS): P3, turn.
Row 3: K3, turn.
Row 4: P3, turn.
Row 5: Sl 2 tog knitwise, k1, psso. (1 st)
Resume knitting across row.

Medium Bobble (Leaning Four-Stitch)
Row 1 (RS): Kfb twice into one stitch, turn. (4 sts)
Row 2(WS): P4, turn.
Row 3: K4, turn.
Row 4: P4, turn.
Row 5: K4, DO NOT turn. *Slip 2nd st on RH needle over last st; rep from * 2 more times. (1 st)
Resume knitting across row.

Large Bobble (Five-Stitch Centered)
Row 1 (RS): (K1, yo, k1, yo, k1) into one stitch, turn. (5 sts)
Row 2 (WS): P5, turn.
Row 3: K5, turn.
Row 4: P5, turn.
Row 5: K5, turn.
Row 6: P5, turn.
Row 7: Slip 2 sts to RH needle, *pass 2nd st on LH needle over last st on LH needle, slip 1 st to RH needle, pass 2nd st on RH needle over last st on RH needle**, slip 1 st to LH needle; rep from * to **. (1 st) Last st of bobble is now on RH needle.
Resume knitting across row.

Which one of these is your favorite? Or do you have a favorite bobble that is different than one of these? Please comment!

Until next time, Happy Knitting!!
